3. Called to be Church

  • We are not called alone as disciples; we are called together to be the Body of Christ--the community of disciples of the Risen Lord, moved by the Spirit to help build the kind of world God would want.

"For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the membes of the body, though many, are one body, we were all baptized in to one body--Jews and Greeks, slave or free, woman or man, and all were made to drink of the one Spirit." --1 Cor. 12

  • This is carried out through the four-fold mission of the Chruch: prayer and worship, community, service and witnessing.

Reflection/Action:

"The Christian faithful are those who, inasmuch as they have been incorporated in Christ through Baptism, have been constituted as the people of God; for this reason, since they have become sharers in Christ's priestly, prophetic, and royal office in their own manner, they are called to exercise the mission which God has entrusted to the Church to fulfill in the world, in accord with the condition proper to each one."

How do you share in the mission of the Church?

Have you identified your service role as priestly, prophetic, and kingly?

How are your gifts needed in the church today?
