Sister Sissy Corr SNDdeN
announces a new program for Children of Incarcerated Parents
October, 2008

The national AmeriCorps organization recently asked us (Notre Dame-AmeriCorps) to share in the leadership of the new program for Children of Incarcerated Parents (CHIP) program. CHIP is a natural extension of our Notre Dame AmeriCorps mission and our hearts confirm the fit.
(The picture on the left shows Sr. Sissy Corr SNDdeN with a group of Notre Dame Mission Volunteers-AmeriCorps Members at an orientation meeting.)
Children with imprisoned parents experience tremendous distruption in their homes. They typically have a series of temporary caregivers or are placed in foster care. They are at greater risk for poor academic achievement. CHIP provides children of imprisioned parents with a mentor as extra support, who will help build self-esteem, trust and strong personal relationships.
I invite you to join us as we branch out into this important new program for children. There are several ways you can help. If you would like to talk about participating in CHIP or any Notre Dame AmeriCorps program, please call Ursula Hill at 410-532-6864, extension 19, or send her an email at
uhill@ndmva.org.
